One of the things that I struggled with in the beginning of my career as an Direct Seller was booking parties! I was always afraid to come right out and ask “Hey do you want to book a party?” Then came along “The Dice Game” I used it in a Mystery Hostess Online party and I was able to get 4 (yes, that’s right FOUR) Parties booked from it. The Dice game is one of many different Booking Games that a Direct Seller can utilize. They help you fill your calendar with Parties which is every Direct Sellers lifeblood and they are also a fun way to interact with your guests and give away prizes. Below I’m going to show you how to play the game at an “in-home” party, and then I will give you some tips and tricks on how to modify it for Facebook Parties.
What you will Need:
Envelopes, Locket Boxes, Takeout Boxes or any else to hold your numbers
Note Cards, Scrapes of Paper etc
A pair of Dice (as fancy or as plain as you want them)
A Grand Prize
Several Goodie Bags or Other Prizes
A tray to roll the dice in (for in home parties only)
How to Play:
For the Goodie Bags, you can fill them with anything you want. Retired Products works really well, or any trinket, gift card to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts Etc. You could also do lotions, candles, or any other cheap “stocking stuffer” type things.
Number the envelopes or boxes 2-12. In envelope #2 the card should read “Grand Prize”; Envelopes #3, #4, #5 and #12 “Pick a Prize”; The remaining 6 cards should read “Book a Party”. The Numbers are important as they play upon the probabilities of the numbers being rolled. (2 has the least probability of being rolled). I have also seen people use different boxes or holders depending on the season (Easter eggs, boxes wrapped in seasonal paper, toilet paper rolls wrapped like candy, etc)
Let your guests know that you are playing a fun new gambling game where each guest who chooses to roll will have the chance to win fabulous prizes. Explain the game well so that they understand that they can choose not to play if they are not willing to host a party. Usually, I Say something like this: If you are dead set against having a party, I recommend that you do NO roll the dice. This IS a game of chance but it is also a game of honor and if you pick “book a party” card you will be expected to do so just like as I am expected to give away free prizes”.
Give the first person the tray with the dice in it. Let them know you are holding 11 envelopes. One of them has a Grand Prize card in it and explain or showcase what the grand prize is. Then let them know that the rest of the envelopes have either “Pick a Prize” or “Book a Party” in them. If they get the Pick a Prize then they get to take a goodie bag or whatever prizes you have set aside for the game.
The first person then gets the option to Roll the Dice or Pass, If they roll the dice then give them the envelope that corresponds to the number that was rolled.Don’t let them open the envelope just yet. Continue to go around the room until everyone has a chance to either Roll or Pass.
At this point is where I give everyone an even better Option. They can turn their envelope in without opening and then get all three options, “Book a party” “Pick a prize” and “Grand Prize”.
How to Modify for Online Parties
This Game is also a great game to play during your online/ Facebook parties. There are several ways you can modify the game for online play.
- Go Live within the group at the end of the party and ask each person if they want to roll the dice, and then you can roll the dice for them, show them the results and open the envelopes for them. This works great for online parties where everyone is online at the same time, Such as the Epic Facebook Party format from Brenda Ster.
- Post a Game Graphic and ask people who want to play to comment on the post, then you can use Random.Org which has a dice generator and in order of the comments, roll the dice and post the results under each person’s comment (as a reply to the original comment). Because you know which numbers have which prizes you don’t HAVE to have the envelopes but I find that opening the envelopes in a video, or live in the party makes it seem more legitimate and quells the chance for people to claim the game is “fixed”.
